2012: A New Beginning

Well, here we are once more. A new year has started, another new chance for me to update this blog and then forget about it for weeks at a time. Supposedly, though, this time will be different! 2012 shall usher in some new changes for me (excluding the end of the world, which is a shared resolution for us all). These are more reasonable resolutions, I feel, ones that are actually doable and more specific as opposed to previous ones like "Be a better person" or "Get in shape". Unstructured, undefined resolutions are the easiest ones to break. This year I'm looking to put on more weight with a goal set at 190 lbs, get my Network+ certification by the end of February, win at least 1 match at the Cleveland kendo tournament and get ni-dan rank. Can goals be resolutions? I'm not really certain the difference.

One other resolution that I keep starting and breaking is to quit soda. I can do it cold turkey for maybe a week or two, but then the urge just becomes too strong. I came to the conclusion that it's just not going to happen. I need soda. I'm a junkie. I've decided to do the next best thing and that to ration out when I can have soda. Soda is now a weekend ONLY drink (Fri/Sat/Sun). No carbonated drinks of any kind on any of those other days. Right now, as I type this, I have a nice refreshing lemonade to sort of soothe my jangled nerves. Just 3 more days before Friday...

I also would like to exercise more and read more, but there aren't really any true goals for either of those. I suppose studying for the Network+ exam would count as reading more. The latest exam book just got published at the end of last year and it was already scheduled to be shipped to me, so I should be able to start reading it by tomorrow or Thursday evening.

So that's what I'm looking forward to this year. Subtle improvements here and there to ultimately lead me to new success somehow. As for my previous end-of-year activities I spent Christmas day at 3 different family locations (shooting crossbows and eating rice crackers), went out bowling with Taje and friends at a place called King Pinz in Leesburg, and spent a quiet New Year's Eve night at home watching When Harry Met Sally and playing trivia games. What were you up to, and what do you plan on doing for 2012?
