FILLER

This has been an atrocious month for me in terms of even attempting to update this site. A lot has been going on recently for me from work to activities to real world drama and my head feels like it's just been up in the clouds lately. I really haven't had much time to even think about posting, but now I think I do. Stuff is still going on and it looks like it will continue to go on almost every weekend for quite some time, but maybe that's just life. It feels so weird having things to do!

In any case, tomorrow(*) I will have a huge post about an event I went to this last weekend which is still killing me even today, the VA Tough Mudder. It was a pretty huge event and really difficult, so much in fact that I don't even know if my body will be ready for this coming weekend's Kato-sensei kendo seminar. There's also another major announcement which I will post about it in own separate post later this week as well.

* - Subject to change if I remember or care.

  1. My girlfriend wants to do one of these. She is in fantastic shape--even here in LA she has been asked to join the training staff at her gym--but she's never done anything like this. Any suggestions?

Congrats, by the way, on all fronts.

  2. If you're in shape, regularly exercise, able to run good distances for lengthy stretches and have the fortitude to just keep on going then that's all you need. The only real goal for this event is to complete it. You don't have to run it like a marathon (you'd be crazy to) and I did a hell of a lot of walking, especially up any hills.

I would just suggest looking over the types of obstacles listed in the events section on their website. A lot of them are real simple and easy to do (crawl through a tube), while others are more physically demanding (getting over a 12' wall).

Great thing about the whole thing is if you don't think you can complete an obstacle you just move to the side around it and carry on, but it is suggested you try!

  3. It sounds really cool. I know that there's no way I could ever do it and I think it's really awesome you did.

From your description it sounds like it's up, er, Ali's alley.
